This past year, my approach to buying healthy food changed drastically. I've come to the realization that if I want quality and nutrient rich food, then I have to be willing to fork over some dough. Don't get me wrong, I love a good deal, it's just that now I appreciate all of the work that goes into cultivating food. Farmers spend lots of effort, time and money to provide us with real food and as the saying goes "pay the farmer now or pay the doctor later." As soon as I started to look at the cost of groceries as an investment in my health and the livelihood of farmers in my community, I stopped feeling guilty about spending $4 on a batch of berries.
