Fitness Series Review: Seaport FIT
I can't believe it's been more than two weeks since I last wrote a blog post! I wish I could say that I was away on a calming health + wellness retreat that inspired me to disconnect from social media and blogging, but I wasn't. The truth is that life happened - being a 20 something year old is a complicated adventure and I'm still trying to figure things out. I took a mini-break from blogging as a way to re-center and to clarify what I hope to achieve with Frugal Urban Fittie. Although I didn't try all the events /classes that I had penciled into my planner or hit every single one of my fitness goals, I was successful in a more meaningful way - I gained greater clarity and a deeper understanding of what it looks like to be more intentional + sincere with my time and energy. Sometimes we just gotta unplug.
In my last blog post, I shared with you all a FREE summer fitness series that I tried for the very first time and loved! Not only did I train for free, but I had views of the Hudson River, took some great shots and I got to wear a Samsung Gear Fit watch to track my workout. If you're looking to explore the outdoor fitness scene in NYC, start with The Sweat Sessions. This series is perfect for those who are super busy and prefer to get their sweat on later in the evening because the last class begins at 8pm.
This week, I'm sharing with you a new summer fitness series that I'm really excited about: Seaport FIT. Seaport Fit is a FREE fitness series created by the New York Health and Racquet Club. Every Monday and Tuesday throughout the summer, they'll be hosting a free class between 6-7pm. This series features classes such as Zumba, Caribbean Dance and BollyX. Of course it wouldn't be New York City if classes were held in a traditional studio. If you attend Seaport FIT, expect to workout on the cobblestone of the Fulton Street Promenade. Yup, right in front of the Fulton Market Building. Although this series is FREE, you'll want to make sure you secure a spot so be sure to sign up via Eventbrite using this link.
I joined seaport FIT for Caribbean Heat with Lilian and she had us all drenched in sweat! Despite the chill and gloomy day, New Yorkers never let the rain ruin our parade. There were about 25 of us winding to the tunes. If you follow me on Insta, then you know that I've tried 2 other Caribbean dance classes (Wukkout and Shape Up NYC). While the type of dance and music is similar in each class, each instructor brings her own culture and energy to the dance floor. Seaport FIT gets bonus points in my book since it's just a few feet from this beautiful enchanted bar that I can't wait to check out later this summer!
If you plan on attending a Seaport FIT class, keep in mind that there are no lockers to store your belongings. We opted to leave our belongings near the stage. You're working out in the middle of a shopping and dining area so don't be surprised if folks stop by to check out what you're doing and snap a photo or two.
