I can't believe it's been more than two weeks since I last wrote a blog post! I wish I could say that I was away on a calming health + wellness retreat that inspired me to disconnect from social media and blogging, but I wasn't. The truth is that life happened - being a 20 something year old is a complicated adventure and I'm still trying to figure things out. I took a mini-break from blogging as a way to re-center and to get some perspective on the things that really matter like my life goals and the work that I see myself doing in the near future. Although I didn't try all the events and new classes that I had planned in the past few weeks or hit every single one of my fitness goals, I was successful in a more meaningful way - I gained greater clarity and a deeper understanding of what it looks like to be more intentional + sincere with my time and energy. Sometimes we just gotta unplug.
In my last blog post, The Sweat Sessions, I shared with you all a FREE summer fitness series that I tried for the very first time and loved! Not only did I train for free, but I had views of the Hudson River, took some great shots and I got to wear a Samsung Gear Fit watch to track my workout. I would recommend The Sweat Sessions for anyone looking to explore the outdoor fitness scene in NYC. Especially anyone who is super busy and prefers to get their sweat on later in the evening. The Sweat Sessions features 3 classes every Tuesday evening with the last class beginning at 8pm. If evenings work better for you, definitely check out that post to learn more and to RSVP!
This week, I'm sharing with you a new summer fitness series that I'm really excited about: Seaport FIT. Seaport Fit is a FREE fitness series hosted by the New York Health and Racquet Club. Every Monday and Tuesday throughout the summer, there will be a free class between 6-7pm. This series includes classes such as Zumba, Caribbean Dance and BollyX. Of course it wouldn't be New York City if classes were held in a traditional studio. If you attend Seaport FIT, expect to workout on the cobblestone on the Fulton Street Promenade. Yup, right in front of the Fulton Market Building. Although this series is FREE, you'll want to make sure you secure a spot so be sure to sign up via Eventbrite using this link.
I joined seaport FIT this past Tuesday for Caribbean Heat and Lilian, the instructor, did not disappoint! Despite the chill and gloomy day, us New Yorkers did not let that ruin our parade. There were about 30 of us winding our waists and jumping around. If you follow me on Insta, then you know that I've tried 2 other Caribbean dance classes (Wukkout and Shape Up NYC). While the type of dance and music is similar in each class, I believe that each instructor brings her own magic/energy to the dance floor. Seaport FIT gets bonus points in my book since it's just a few feet from this beautiful enchanted bar that I can't wait to check out later this summer!
If you plan on attending a Seaport FIT class keep in mind that there are no lockers to store your belongings. Fyi we felt comfortable enough to leave our belongings by the stage. Also, you're working out in the middle of a shopping and dining area so do expect people to stop by and check out what you're doing. They may even snap a few photos so wear your good leggings lol.
Do you take advantage of the outdoor summer fitness scene in NYC or do you prefer to stay cool and workout indoors?
