Fitness Series Review: The Sweat Sessions
Blossoming flowers are always a good indicator that spring is in the air. Yet, for those of us in the fitness world here in New York City, spring is marked by the growing number of outdoor fitness classes that start to sprout up. It’s mid-May, which means it is officially the time of year when studios, fitness brands and programs like Shape Up NYC begin hosting free outdoor fitness classes. These classes bring the community together and help us crush our fitness goals all without breaking the bank. Outdoor classes take place at parks, on bridges, on the pier and chic rooftops. New Yorkers in every borough are gearing up for the season and ready to turn the city into a gym. To make sure that you don’t miss out on the fun, I’m sharing one outdoor fitness series that you need to add to your calendar ASAP: The Sweat Sessions.
The Sweat Sessions is a FREE fitness series put on by the Meatpacking Business Improvement District and the Wellth Collective. Every Tuesday from May-August, they’ll be hosting three 45-minute classes at 6pm, 7pm and 8pm. Classes vary and include bootcamp, dance cardio and kickboxing technique. You can RSVP for classes here!
Curious to know what a Sweat Session class looks like? Check out my first class below! It was 80 degrees so I made sure to hydrate well before class and was good to go!
This was my very first time attending a class with The Sweat Sessions and I loved it. The park was small, but the perfect size for our group. As you can tell from the photos, it was a full class and we were definitely getting our sweat on! Apparently, I didn't get the memo to wear black leggings "/. I stood out with my neon orange leggings from Adidas (hands down my favorite sports brand). The Sweat Sessions take place on the Hudson River Park, which it pretty cool because it's right below the High Line and across from the river. The soothing sound of New York City traffic played in unison with the upbeat music. Oh and Samsung was kind enough to bring Gear Fit watches for us to test out and I was amazed at how many steps I took and calories I burned by the end of the 7pm class.
Honestly, what could be better than working out for FREE on the Hudson River Park?? This is the perfect way to celebrate spring and embrace the New Yorker in you. I can’t wait to RSVP for future classes and continue getting fit on a shoestring budget.
